ChiaoGoo TWIST Lace Shorties interchangeable needle set 5 + 8 cm 3.5 - 5 mm

Product detailed description

ChiaoGoo TWIST Lace Shorties interchangeable needle set 5 + 8 cm 3.5 - 5 mm

The ChiaoGoo TWIST Lace Shorties set of short interchangeable needles in screw size S is made for small-diameter knitting: socks, mittens, hats or baby clothes. The 5 and 8 cm tips can be combined with different cables into circular needles measuring 23 to 36 cm. You can even build needles whose two tips differ in length, which is handy for socks or mittens.

What is included

• 10 pairs of TWIST Lace Shorties tips in screw size S (5 pairs of 5 cm and 5 pairs of 8 cm) in sizes 3.50, 3.75, 4.00, 4.50 and 5.00 mm
• 3 blue TWIST X-FLEX cables in size S, 13, 15 and 20 cm long
• 2 end stoppers, 2 tightening keys and 2 connectors
• 6 stitch markers and a needle gauge
• a blue zippered case measuring 12 × 9.5 cm with labelled compartments

Lace tips and memory-free cables

The stainless steel tips are very pointy, which suits patterns with several stitches worked at once, such as lace, puff stitch, bubble stitch and cables. The very flexible cable is made of multiple steel wires, has no memory and does not kink or twist while you knit. The tips are attached, tightened or loosened with the supplied key.

Compatibility

TWIST and SPIN products share the same screw size, so they can be combined. All tips and cables are laser engraved with their screw size: M (Mini), S (Small) or L (Large). This set is size S, meaning 3.50 - 5.00 mm tips of 8 cm. ChiaoGoo adapters can connect different screw sizes.

What the set is good for

The short tips are made for small-diameter projects: socks, mittens, hats and baby clothes. Combining the 13, 15 and 20 cm cables with the 5 and 8 cm tips gives you circular needles measuring 23 to 36 cm. The Lace tips suit patterns with several stitches worked at once: lace patterns, puff stitch, bubble stitch and cables.

Care and maintenance

According to ChiaoGoo, wipe the cables and metal tips with rubbing alcohol before first use for a smoother yarn feed, and wipe them again from time to time. Tighten each tip onto the cable with the supplied T-shaped key every time for a more secure join. New cables are memory-free, but a kinked cable will hold the kink, so do not pinch or sharply bend them. The set can be stored in the supplied case.

Interesting facts about the brand and the needles

ChiaoGoo is a family-owned business started by four brothers. Their father ran a workshop from the early 1980s that made bamboo knitting needles, and the brothers grew up in the Chinese town of Linan, known as the bamboo capital of China. According to the maker, the name ChiaoGoo means "highly skillful and crafty lady". It was inspired by the brothers' mother, an avid knitter who tested new needles. The needles are designed and distributed in Troy, Michigan, and manufactured in Hangzhou, China.

With Shorties you can put tips of different lengths on one circular needle, for example 5 cm and 8 cm. This is handy when knitting socks or mittens, where you may want one tip comfortably shorter.
